Why unconventional? These 10 hidden gems not only serve great food and services, but also offer attractive benefits and loyalty privileges when you dine with them. So, be prepared for a very FAT Christmas this year without having to burn your pockets!

Aren’t you excited just by looking at the collage photo? Let the feast begin!

1) Hanwoori Korean Restaurant
Located in Serangoon Gardens, Hanwoori is a warm and cosy Korean restaurant that offers an extensive range of authentic Korean classics at a very reasonable price. On top of that, they do not use any MSG or preservatives in their dishes (already a super plus point that’s worth visiting). The great hospitality from the owner Joy also makes the dining experience a very memorable one.

This BBQ Set for 2 is super incredible! You don’t have to smell like BBQ or go through the hassle of barbecuing your food because everything is already cooked for you. You just need to enjoy every single bits of it. The set comes with pork belly, beef, sweet potatoes, seasoned mushroom and my favourite onions. Meats were really well-marinated and flavourful! Very value-for-money!

2) Monkey Warung
Located at Capitol Piazza, you can expect to see huge slabs of pork ribs at Monkey Warung (previously known as Naughty Nuri’s) which you literally can’t say “NO”! Some of you might now be wondering the differences between Naughty Nuri’s and Monkey Warung since both offer popular Indonesian dishes. Yes, they are similar in that sense but many people have agreed that Monkey Warung is a notch higher than Naughty Nuri’s, in terms of execution and flavour.

This place is definitely good for a large group of people (portions are relatively huge). Other than their irresistible pork ribs, you also must try their Crispy Pig Skin & Ayam Penyet.

3) Rocky Master
Rocky Master has been around in Singapore for more than 10 years now, and has all along been a gem for the office population. With 9 of their outlets situated in the business parks, Rocky Master is known for serving affordable coffee and delicious local dishes. Recently, they became halal-certified (Muslim friends can finally enjoy their food) and has also expanded their menu.

Expect to see a range of local popular classics such as Fried Carrot Cake (my favourite), Laksa and Mee Siam! It’s rare to find a café in Singapore that embraces local food and I think Rocky Master is one perfect place that you can bring your overseas friends for a sumptuous local feast! On top of that, they also serve really nice cakes and pastries!

4) Poke Shack
Situated in Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 3, Poke Shack offers authentic and mouth-watering poke and acai bowls at a very reasonable price. For office-goers that are looking for a healthy and value-for-money place for lunch, Poke Shack is the place to go. You’ll definitely be walking away with a very satisfied tummy!

The vibrant colours of both the Poke & Acai Bowls brighten up my day instantly. Even though Poke Shack is offering both of these at a very affordable price, they do not compromise on the quality of the food served. Portion is definitely more than sufficient as well.

5) The Milky Way
The Milky Way celebrated its 3rd anniversary on August earlier this year, and has already made a name for itself in the Commonwealth neighbourhood in a short span of 3 years. Opened by the two charming brothers, Alfred & Renfred (former contestant of Campus Superstar), the Milky Way specialises in home-made gelato and waffle. On top of that, the dessert café is also known for its great coffee and latte art.

These are the more popular gelatos at The Milky Way. They were all rich and creamy. My favourites were the Timeless Earl Grey (light and floral Earl Grey Flavour; dosen’t tastes artificial) and Roasted Sicilian Pistachio (strong and aromatic). Waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Also, you must get their coffee and remember to ask Renfred to draw something Christmasy on your cuppa!

6) Yoogane Singapore
Yoogane is one of my favourite go-to Korean restaurant during my university exchange in Seoul. Their iconic hot pan with cheese, meat, vegetables and fried rice is a must-try item in their menu. They have also expanded to Singapore (to date, 5 outlets) and I was more than thrilled when they opened one outlet near my house.

To celebrate Christmas this year, Yoogane Singapore will be launching a brand new dish – Honey Miso Chicken which comes with 4 exquisite side dishes: 1) Crispy Salad, Tteok-Galbi, Seared Tuna and Soft-Shell Crab, 2) Two Festive Drinks: The Pom Pom & Sweet Tidings and 3) Two Posset Desserts: Berry Sweet Plum and Berry Sweet Lemon. While Christmas is all about celebrating and feasting, it is also the season of giving. For every Christmas set sold, Yoogane Singapore will be donating S$5 to the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund from 17 Nov-31 Dec 2017. So, let’s do our part for the society and celebrate a meaningful Christmas this year.

7) Caffe Pralet
This hidden gem at Eng Hoon Street has revamped its space with new tables and chairs, making the café cosier. Also, they have rolled out a brand new menu that features Asian-fusion rice bowls during the weekdays (for all office-goers) and modern fusion dishes during the weekends (perfect place for a meal with family and friends). This new menu is a notch higher than the previous one, in terms of creativity, flavour and presentation. Not forgetting their delicious cakes and pastries which won me hands down again.

The new dishes are better presented, more flavourful and definitely very Instagram-worthy! They were generous with the servings and it was a very satisfying meal. You must try their Har Jeong Gai Charcoal Burger and Chilli Crab Cheese Fries. This Christmas, Caffe Pralet has created some new and interesting flavours such as Oolong Raspberry and Blueberry Cheesecake log cake, in addition to Christmas cookies such as Sea Salt Dark Chocolate cookie and Lychee Rose cookies.

Recently, Beast & Butterflies has rolled out their Christmas Brunch Menu and it is very value-for-money. So, impress your spouse with a romantic date at Beast & Butterflies this Christmas!

You will definitely be spoilt with choices at Beast & Butterflies’ Christmas Brunch Menu. Dishes were well-executed but you’ve got to pay extra attention to the lobsters. They were fresh, well-cooked and very flavourful. Meat falls off the shell very easily. I can eat three all by myself!

9) D’zerts Café
Situated along the streets of Tanah Merah/Simei, D’zerts Cafe is a simple and low-profile dessert cafe that specialises in cakes and pastries. This underrated cafe deserves recognition for its exquisite, creative and outstanding pastries. People living in the East might know them but it is totally worth a trip down if you stay in the West. I was very impressed with their Christmas desserts. Definitely coming back for more!

Just look at how adorable their Christmas pastries are! I couldn’t bear myself to eat the Reindeer and Christmas Tree pastries. They are not only aesthetically-pleasing, but also very pleasurable to the taste buds. Also, the desserts here are not overly sweet.
