How did I not try canelés before? This question was swirling in my head after my visit to Le Canele d’Or – Singapore’s first-ever Canelé concept stall. Located along Beach Road (just opposite Haji Lane), Le Canele d’Or Singapore offers an extensive range of exquisite and interesting flavoured canelés alongside coffees and teas at a very reasonable price. Flavours such as Ondeh Ondeh (my favourite), Raspberry Framboise, Hazelnut and Christmas Special – Stollen can be found in the cosy dessert café. On top of that, they will be opening their second outlet at the basement of Takashimaya on the 8th of January selling new flavours such as Matcha, Coffee and Orange. I’m getting all excited now! If you haven’t try canelés before, you really need to check Le Canele d’Or Singapore out! It’s the perfect place for an afternoon tea break!
They come in 3 sizes: $1.80 (Cocktail), $3.50 (Medium) and $5.50 (Large). For a change, other than always giving the usual boring Bak Kwa or flowers this Valentine’s Day or Chinese New Year, you can give your corporate clients/family/partners a box of canelé and I bet they will be very surprised.
I couldn’t bear myself to eat them. TOO PRETTY! Also, I really liked the coffee at the café. I had a Matcha Latte and it was aromatic and has a very strong matcha flavour. Trust me, you need to try it to believe it.
Another thing about these canelés is that they aren’t overly sweet or jelat (even after having several of them). If you are not into sweets, you will probably like this as well.
This is what they look like on the inside! The green colour is Ondeh Ondeh, red colour is Raspberry, brown with the white topping is Stollen. My favourite was the ondeh ondeh. Gula Melaka flavour was strong and super fragrant. Crusty outer layer complemented with the soft inner layer, these canelés are so damn addictive!
