Tanjong Pagar is very much known for its exciting nightlife, and a food heaven. There’s so many bars and restaurants within the area offering all sorts of different cuisines. Personally, it’s one of my favourite places to hangout with my peers or colleagues after work.
If you are very familiar with Tanjong Pagar, you would definitely know about the food street/mall – Icon Village (with popular stalls such as Matchaya & The Quarters). Taking over the space by Sakae Sushi previously, Maru Dine & Bar is a new comtemporary bistro bar that offers palatable Asian-fusion dishes and interesting bespoke cocktails. So, I guess you know where to chill with your colleagues after work!
Even though it’s a bistro bar, the food at Maru definitely surpassed our expectations. The dishes paired very well with beers, wines and cocktails. If my office is around Tanjong Pagar, I’ll definitely bring my colleagues here for lunch, especially the hearty rice bowl.
Prosperity Yu Sheng
Are you kidding me? This bistro bar does their Yu Sheng better than some renowned restaurants. Presented in the shape of a dog, this Yu Sheng had a strong Japanese influence. It was refreshing, crunchy and has a great sweet-sour combination. Huat ah!
Mentaiko Baked Mushroom
I foresee this as becoming one of the popular snacks in Maru. Mushrooms were well-seasoned, and the crispy lotus root chips were a great add to the entire dish. Order an iced cold beer to go with this!
Not a huge fan of kale but I can finish this entire bowl all by myself. It was well-dressed and addictive!
Iberico Pork Jowl
OMG! This was our favourite dish. Even though it was cold (we left it on the table for photo-taking), the pork was still flavourful, tender and juicy. We were all fighting to finish the last piece. A must-try!
White Tuna Tataki
This was not too bad but I don’t usually take raw dish. Flavour was definitely bold here. If you like Tuna, I believe you will like this!
Flavour was good but I thought it was a tad too tough for me. Oh yes, I’m in love with the mentaiko potato at the bottom.
All the premium ingredients in one bowl. You get to enjoy Hokkaido Scallop, Botan Ebi, Uni, Sburi Salmon, Caviar, Bonito Shoyu Broth, Chilled Somen. The chilled somen went very well with all the fresh ingredients.
Stir Fry Cube Beef Don
One dish that I’ll recommend the office crowd. Hearty and flavourful rice bowl! Rice (similar to claypot rice) was fragrant, egg was on point, and beef cubes were tender and juicy.
Here are some drinks we got at Maru. Drinks and food = Awesome Combo!
