Not your typical butchery in Singapore, Cavemen is a new hideout in Balestier for primal cuts, aged meats, cheese and wines. And that’s not all. You can enjoy all of them at a very pocket-friendly price. Recently, I was invited to their soft launch party (supposedly a Ladies’ Night, but what’s a party without men) and I was awed by the selection they offered. We also had a surprise paring at the event (each dish was paired uniquely with a champagne, wine and sake) and I can’t wait to share the whole experience with all of you.

Before I start sharing, I would love to introduce the charming and inspiring lady boss of Cavemen, Yvonne Nattashia Ng. I had a couple of burning questions when I met her at the party. I mean, you wouldn’t expect her (so lady-like) to open a butchery? And that is one niche market, so why?

Travelling really helps. It opens your eyes (gain new perspective) when you soaked yourself in different cultures. For Yvonne, she realised the need for an easily accessible neighbourhood butcher-delicatessen after travelling to different countries. There wasn’t much affordable/value-for-money butcheries in Singapore and that’s the reason why she wanted to bring the concept into the local market. Count us lucky because thanks to Yvonne, we can get to sample premium meats, cheese and wines without burning a huge hole in our pocket.

P/s: Oh yes, check out their membership programme via Advocado when you visit their store!

Kickstarting the party with a champagne toast.

Collalto Rose Spumante Extra Dry
A bubbly a day keeps depression away! I don’t see a reason why any ladies would reject this. Champagne is on the sweeter spectrum and it is very easy to drink. Not only does it pair well with the cheese, the champagne also enhanced the flavour of it.

Cheese Platter
Sampled about 5 different types of cheese and my favourite (hands down) was still the Blue Cheese. Strong flavour and it goes really well with the white wine (which I’m gonna show next). Cheese-lovers, go flock Cavemen now!

Hmmm! This was so so good! Goes really well with champagne!

Trebbiano d’Abruzzo
Another really light and smooth wine! Great aroma as well! Special note for the guys: if you want to impress your date/girlfriend, please get a bottle of this white wine!

US Angus with French Onion Au Jus
Okay, this didn’t gave me a very good impression initially (meat looks really raw) but it turned out otherwise. Beef was really tender and flavourful. Oh yes, French onion was such a great complement. I need my red wine now!

Dry aged USDA choice with Minced Truffles Sauce
Truffle smell was soaking the entire room, and honestly, I couldn’t wait to dig in (but must maintain because so many ladies around) Again, the dry aged meat was so tender and it was filled with truffle flavour. Trust me, once you start, you can’t stop!

Legit drink and feast to our heart’s content. Another cheers shot of our Allegrini Red Wine which complemented the meats really well.

Ended off the party with a clean and smooth sake! This was really easy to drink, not burning to the throat!
