Here’s a STARK reminder that Mother’s Day is ONLY a few days away and if you haven’t plan anything for your mum yet, you better pay EXTRA attention to this article. As we all know, a mother’s love knows no boundaries and it is a MUST for us to show her some appreciation for all the things that she has done for us. This Mother’s Day, I have compiled 4 remarkable restaurants bound to surprise and impress your mum. These 4 places offer different types of cuisine, mainly Chinese, Thai, Western & Japanese which I believe you’ll definitely find one that fits your mum’s palette.

P/s: The restaurants are written in no particular order! Also, you’re able to earn rewards/points when you dine at these restaurants. Good stuff, isn’t it?

So let the Mother’s Day SURPRISE begin!

1) Greyhound Cafe
The popular franchise from Bangkok that offers a huge variety of reasonably-priced Western-Thai fusion dishes. If you happen to be bringing your mum on a shopping spree at Orchard, do remember to drop by Greyhound Cafe for a nice and relaxing meal. Just spot that modern, chic Black & White cafe at Paragon. I was surprised at how affordable the dishes were and I bet you will as well. Here are some signatures you need to check out:

Complicated Noodles
If your mum belongs to the health-conscious group, you should order this for her. How to eat this? Grab a lettuce (the base), put in the noodle sheet, and add in the desired amount of minced meat.

Fresh Coconut Crepe Cake // $11
The desserts at Greyhound Cafe stole all the limelight, especially this Fresh Coconut Crepe Cake. Cake had a rich coconut flavour with fresh coconut meats in between the layers, giving the cake an extra crunch. Super soft and moist! So good I wanted to buy one home! Please get this for your mum! It is not too sweet!

2) Tien Court
With a rich history dated all the way back to almost 23 years ago, Tien Court has always been famed for its elegant and exquisite Chinese-Cantonese dishes. Located within Copthorne King’s Hotel, surprise your mum with a lavish and carefully-curated Mother’ Day special at Tien Court. Trust me, this will be a meal to remember!

皇 (Baked Fresh Scallops served with Cheese Mayonnaise and Teriyaki Brinjal)
Oh my GOD! I believe you and your mum will share the same reaction with me after popping them into the mouth. Didn’t know Scallop and Brinjal goes so well with one another. Scallop was well-cooked to achieve a crunchy texture while Brinjal was not too oily. Awesome Combo indeed!

鸭 (Braised Duck with Yam and Sour Plum in Claypot)
This was one of my favourite dish at Tien Court. The duck and yam were well-braised. So good I think I finished 3/4 of the yams. The sauce was also the reason why this dish was a huge success. It was not too sweet and super addictive. Now, where is my bowl of rice?

3) Yum Cha
Pride for its creative and mouth-watering dim sums, Yum Cha has always been very popular among the young and the old. On top of that, the dim sums are super affordable! To celebrate Mother’s Day this year, Yum Cha has rolled out 3 new dishes that will make your mum go GAGA (I mean happy)! These dishes (which I will be sharing in awhile) fits perfectly to the Mother’s Day theme!

玫瑰花馒头 Steamed Rose Floret Bun
These rose-shaped buns from Yum Cha will definitely put a smile on your mum’s face. They come in 3 different fillings – Raspberry, Lian Rong & Yam and my favourite has to be the Raspberry. Don’t worry, they are not too sweet!

水晶海鲜饺 Steamed Spinach and Seafood Dumpling
The dumpling skin was not too thick and they were really generous with the fillings. Fish roe atop was a great finishing touch.

芋泥炸金鱼 Taro Gold Fish Dumpling
This was fried to perfection – Crispy and not too oily. Fillings were generous and super fragrant. My favourite out of the three!

4) Yakitori Lounge HIBIKI
Hidden in a corner along Bukit Timah Road is a cosy and underrated Japanese restaurant – Yakitori Lounge HIBIKI which has recently rolled out a series of value-for-money set lunches. If your mum is the type that doesn’t like you to splurge on Mother’s Day, Hibiki is the best place to go to! Since there is a variety to choose from, I’ll be recommending their popular and signature Wagyu Don with Onsen Egg! Time for some yolkalicious food porn!

So damn shiok lah! The meal comes with a variety of side dishes!

Wagyu Don with Onsen Egg
Just look at how runny the onsen egg is. One gentle poke and it flows like nobody’s business! Wagyu was super flavourful, tender and juicy! Anytime, anywhere just to get this don! Highly recommended!
