Only 3 months old, Tipsy Penguin is a hidden gem in the East not all Easties might have heard of. Located conveniently within NTUC Income Junction (directly opposite Tampines Hub), this modern bistro bar offers an extensive selection of Asian-Fusion dishes at a very reasonable price. On top of that, they have live bands performing every evening from Monday to Saturday. Unlike other usual bars, Tipsy Penguin also serves artisanal coffee with really cute latte arts such as T-Rex, Pegasus and many more. Oh yes, all these latte designs are also award-winning ones from several prestigious Barista competitions. For people who loves to sing, there’s also a private Karaoke room with a minimum spending of $250 (very tempted to jio my colleagues). So, if you’re looking for a place to chill with your friends, Tipsy Penguin is definitely one of the better choices.

P/s: This bistro bar also has FREE WiFi!

You wouldn’t expect a bistro bar to serve impressive dishes but you know what, the food at Tipsy Penguin left a lasting impression. They were well thought-of, nicely presented and most importantly, not too taxing to the wallet. Oh yes, the chef used to be from Les Amis. Standard is definitely there! Oh yes, spot that cute T-Rex in my latte!

Can you spot the rabbit on the tree?

Latte // $6
Really surprised to see this at a bistro bar! Coffee was not too acidic and has a really nice aroma. Also, that beautiful latte art (T-Rex) on my coffee definitely brighten up my day. You can request the barista on what you want to see on your coffee ?

Wild Porcini Soup // $8
Mushroom soup was rich, creamy and very fragrant. It was not too overpowering (not jelat). Also, I’m in love with the dash of truffle oil that hits your palette first and later lingers. Definitely enhanced the flavour of the mushroom soup.

Seafood Chowder // $8
Another flavoursome and comforting soup from Tipsy Penguin. Generous portion of prawns and squids in the soup. Again, soup was well-balanced and not too jelat.

Mac & Cheese // $10
Oh yes! Pull that cheese really high! It’s hard for this to go wrong and the rendition here was not too bad. Loving the combination of Blue Cheese, Black Pepper Cheddar and Mozzarella. It’s definitely a cheesy affair, haha!

Szechuan Mala Karaage // $10
The mala trend is definitely the next wave that’s gonna hit Singapore (or might have already started). Chicken was well-seasoned with the Mala blend and tasted really good. For those who can’t take the heat, it’s best not to order this. If not, this is a good bar bite. Now, where’s my iced cold beer?

Singapore Bowl // $14
Hmm….Salted Egg sauce was really ‘SHIOK’ sia. It was not too overwhelming and complemented the shrimp chicken really well. Fried rice has a nice wok hei flavour too.

Korean Bowl // $14
This took me quite a while to get used to it. But once you are familiar with the taste, you literally can’t stop. Flavour was really good and the noodles have a really nice texture. Slurplicious!

Cookies & Milk // $7
Old School kind of dessert and I LIKED it a lot! Cookies were made of 70% Dark Valrhona Chocolate and it was baked to perfection. Loving the molten texture and dip it into the milk for maximum pleasure.

The Accidental Cheesecake // $9
This signature dessert from Tipsy Penguin is a MUST-TRY! Different from the usual cheesecake, this rendition is more gooey, melty and damn addictive. Loving the nice burnt ends as well. Pair that with a honeycomb ice cream, your sweet tooth is definitely fixed!

So, what are you waiting for? I’ll see you at Tipsy Penguin soon!
