Psst! For those who irks the strong stench of garlic, Black garlic has none of it. So, don’t worry!

Black Garlic Honey Pork with King Prawn tossed with Salted Egg Yolk sauce
I was so excited when they served the appetiser on our table. Because First Culinary is very much known for their succulent Char-Siew (thus I’m looking forward to it) and they have incorporated Black Garlic into it as well. The result = Beautiful! Char-Siew was well-roasted and flavourful; it has a balanced sweet-savoury combination and I really liked the crisp on the slightly burnt edges. It was also not too fatty. The other appetiser was the King Prawn tossed with Salted Egg Yolk sauce – not too bad; strong salted egg flavour and the prawn was fresh and crunchy but I thought it was a tad too dry for me!

Double-Boiled Black Chicken Soup with Black Garlic & ‘Sheng Di’
This was my favourite and probably the highlight of the Black Garlic themed menu. The soup was bursting with flavours and you can really taste the different herbs used in boiling the broth. From the colour, I thought the soup was gonna taste really bitter but it was the exact opposite. It was comforting and very soothing to the throat. Super nourishing! Oh yes, no MSG is added thus you won’t get thirsty after drinking every sip of it.

Steamed Cod Fillet with Minced Black Garlic and Chili Soya Sauce
We all know that cod fish can taste really fishy if it’s not cooked properly but First Culinary did a really good job in handling it. Cod fish was flavoursome and it has a really nice texture (melty). The only thing I thought could be further improved would be better incorporating the Black Garlic with the cod fish. Perhaps instead of placing the Black Garlic on top of the fish, they could infused it with the sauce.

Braised Whole Abalone with Home Made Bean Curd in Oyster Sauce
Just look at that beautiful glaze on the abalone! It has a really nice texture – not too tough and the oyster sauce complemented it really well. But you know what? That soft and silky Bean Curd actually stole my heart! Hmm, my stomach is satisfied!

Stir-Fried Angel Hair Pasta with Scallop and Minced Black Garlic in White Truffle Oil
This dish, sadly, was the least favourite out of all. Pasta lacked a punch and I would have loved it even more if the flavour was a tad stronger.

Chilled Sweetened Cream of Young Coconut & Chilled Sweetened of Osmanthus Jelly Cake
Always perfect to end a hearty feast with a refreshing platter of dessert! Loving that traditional Osmanthus Jelly Cake which was not too sweet.
