Peranakan cuisine is slowly losing its charm (less appreciated) to the younger generation. It’s sad because Peranakan plays a vital role in shaping Singapore’s history and culture. Christina Keilthy, owner of Godmama, recognises that and thus aims to make Peranakan food more approachable and accessible to the masses (regardless of age) at her humble restaurant & bar.

Using her Godma and Ma’s Peranakan heirloom recipes (hence the name of the restaurant), Godmama is a modern Peranakan restaurant & bar tucked on the 4th level of Funan mall. Think creative and fusion Peranakan dishes such as Buah Keluak Bolognese Pasta, Pulled Pork Pongteh Sunny, Banana Pengat Pancake and many more!

If you’re looking for a place to brunch at Funan mall, remember to check out Godmama for some hearty and modern Peranakan dishes!

All-Star Egg Skin Popiah
The highlight (also my FAV) at Godmama is definitely this iconic Peranakan popiah! Skin was made of egg crepes, hence explaining the fluffiness and is stuffed with generous servings. Dip it with sambal chilli for maximum pleasure!

Pulled Pork Pongteh Sunny
Pulled pork was flavoursome and juicy (but would have loved it even more if the flavour was a tad stronger) and look at that beautifully-cooked sunny side up!

Babi Assam Baked Eggs
If you are worried that this dish is gonna be spicy, it isn’t. Flavour was mild (not too overpowering) and it goes really well with the sourdough toasts. The right way to eat this – Mix everything up!

Buah Keluak Bolognese Pasta
Pasta wasn’t overly-cooked (nice texture) but I thought the Buah Keluak flavour was a tad mild for me! Also, for the price I would be paying, I would have loved the portion to be a little bigger.

Banana Pengat Buttermilk Pancakes
Always good to end brunch with pancakes and ice cream!

The coffee (from The Tad Coffee) at Godmama was really good too! My mocha was awesome!
